Myopia Treatment Options for Children

When your child’s nearsightedness keeps progressing, stronger glasses are not the only option.

Child and Family Eye Care offers four approaches designed to help slow childhood myopia progression: ortho-k overnight lenses, MiSight® 1 day contacts, NaturalVue® Multifocal contacts, and Essilor® Stellest™ optical lenses.

The right choice depends on your child’s prescription, eye health, age, lifestyle, and comfort with glasses or contacts.

Four Ways to Manage Childhood Myopia

Each treatment takes a different approach. Some give children freedom from daytime glasses, while others use daily contacts or specially designed eyeglass lenses.

Our optometrists help families compare the choices and build a myopia management plan around the individual child.

Ortho-K Overnight Lenses

Ortho-K uses custom contact lenses worn while your child sleeps. They temporarily reshape the cornea so many children can see clearly during the day without glasses or contacts.

The specialized optical effect is also used to help slow myopia progression. Ortho-K can be particularly appealing for active children and teens who prefer freedom from daytime eyewear.

MiSight® 1 Day Soft Contact Lenses

MiSight 1 day is an FDA-approved daily disposable contact lens for myopia control in children who meet the treatment criteria.

The lenses correct blurry distance vision while using specialized treatment zones designed to help slow myopia progression. Children start with a fresh pair each morning and discard them at night, eliminating the cleaning and storage required with reusable contacts.

NaturalVue® Multifocal Soft Contact Lenses

NaturalVue Multifocal 1 Day lenses are daily disposable soft contacts with an extended-depth-of-focus design. They provide clear vision while creating an optical effect that eye care professionals may use as part of myopia management.

NaturalVue gives appropriate children another daytime soft contact lens option. In the U.S., its use specifically for slowing myopia progression is considered off-label.

Essilor® Stellest™ Optical Lenses

Prefer glasses? Stellest lenses combine everyday vision correction with technology designed to help slow childhood myopia progression.

The center provides clear vision, while surrounding rings of tiny lenslets create the myopia-control signal. This makes Stellest a practical choice for younger children, those who are not ready for contacts, or families who simply prefer glasses.

Which Myopia Treatment Is Right for Your Child?

There is no single treatment that suits every child.

Our optometrists consider your child’s age, prescription, rate of myopia progression, eye health, activities, and readiness for contact lenses before making a recommendation.

We’ll explain the differences clearly so you can choose an option that makes sense for your child and your family.
